I don’t know about you, but my Labor Day is lookin beat. I have zero BBQs to attend as of now, and the only legit thing going on that day that I’m aware of is The Suzan at The Smiling Moose. Lucky for everyone, they’re a catchy, cheery, cutesy Japanese foursome that I was made aware of a few years back via one of Stereogum or Pitchfork’s year-end lists. All those lists blend together after a certain point. This New York-based group made their international debut with the Fool’s Gold/Downtown release Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat. Interestingly enough, this marks the first band signed to Fool’s Gold and was produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John – who they convinced to produce their album via a MySpace message. Their track “Devils,” features backing vocals from Lykke Li. Though they’ve garnered attention from indie pop’s forerunners, you’d be hard pressed to find a Pittsburgher who knows who the hell The Suzan is.
That’s what we’re here for! To serve up the jams in an easily digestible form that we hope will provide the kick you need to act on your approval and go to the show we’re pluggin. This one’s Monday, September 3 – yep, Labor Day – at The Smiling Moose, and well, right now we can think of no better way to spend our holiday than with this energetic group of gals who don’t give an F what Labor Day is considering they’re natives of Japan. OH well! If you don’t believe us, see for yourself:
How can you not be into that, I mean come ON?! Zambri and locals The Van Allen Belt will be joining the bill as special guests to make your $10 bucks even more worth it. This show begins at 6:30PM with a 6PM door time. You could totally get your BBQ on, see this show, and then go back to eat leftovers once you’ve gotten your daily dose of cute Japanese broads. Sounds like a perfect Labor Day to me!
