Project: Lido is an exhibition that takes place in the Leslie Park Pool in Lawrenceville. It brings together a mix of eclectic artists, patrons, professionals and community members. This event is curated by Amanda Donnan and produced by the Lawrenceville Collective. If you’re wondering why this project was titled “Lido”, according to the event page, “Taken from the Italian word for “shore,” the word “lido” is a commonly used vernacular in the UK to glamorize an everyday public pool. The artists restore the dynamic to Leslie Pool through a series of ambitious works that will be on view for a very limited duration.” Sounds about right to us!
This project is funded and supported by the Heinz Endowments Small Arts Initiative, PA Council on the Arts and Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
Each of the participating artists add a unique element to this interactive event. Exhibits include organic sculptures, sound and video projects, performance as art, and many other multisensory experiences. This background garden party brings together 13 artists who have ties to Pittsburgh and tunes will be provided by local favorite Edgar Um. Participating artists include: Nina Marie Barbuto, Chris Beauregard, Brian Brown, Felipe Castelblanco, Nayda Collazo-Llorens, Cara Erskine, Suzie Silver with Scott Andrew, and Harrison Apple, Tobias Madison, Stephanie Ross, and Shaun Slifer/Jessica McPherson.
If you haven’t already been to the Leslie Park Pool site, it’s a must see. What was once a vibrant community space will be re purposed and come to life as a result of Project: Lido. This free outdoor event happens from 7-10PM this Thursday, August 30.
