Our friends at 720 Music, Clothing and Cafe are hosting an event for their “720 on 7/20 series” – seems appropriate, right!? The shop has a great space in the back to host performances, so if you haven’t had a chance to check out a show there yet, now’s the time! They have a great vibe and great selections if you’re in the market for some records or some hip clothing items. We’ve talked about them in the past, as I recall having the best cupcake of my life there. This spot is certainly more than just cupcakes!
Elzhi has been touted as one of Detroit’s most “prolific and legendary emcees”. Formerly of Slum Village and the architect of Elmatic, an homage to Nas’ Ilmatic, Elzhi’s mixtape was nominated as one of XXL Mag’s “Top 10 Best Mixtapes of 2011″ alongside heavy hitters like Freddie Gibbs, Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky and Big K.R.I.T.. He was asked to be a part of the Slum Village crew back in 2001 and built on the skills he’d acquired competing in Detroit’s legendary Maurice Malone’s Hip Hop Shop, which has produced some of the hottest emcees in the world. He spent his time as a part of the Slum Village crew touring the world and performing his hit singles “Tainted (featuring Dwele)” and “Selfish (featuring Kanye West and John Legend)”. Listen to some of his tracks below:
Joining Elzhi as support will be hip-hop jazz emcee and Cleveland’s own Rep Life. Tickets are $12 in advance and the show starts at 9PM (doors at 8) on Friday, July 20.
